Today we were ready to venture away from the resort to see Spain! We headed to Ronda, a town about 1 hour north over the mountains and into a valley. It is an adorable quaint town with streets lines with Orange trees all bearing fruit! We strolled around town to get a lay of the land and before you know it, we were starving! The Blounts don’t like to miss a meal and all this exploring made us extra hungry! We are all fans of Italian and we found a fabulous pizzeria we felt compelled to try. Will we ever eat real Spanish food on this trip?!?
After lunch we headed over to the Plaza de Toros (bullring). It is the oldest and most famous bullring in Spain. There was a really neat museum there and we were able to see where the bulls and horses were kept. The museum had lots or artwork and costumes and we learned a lot about Pedro Romero, Spain’s most famous bullfighter. The kids wanted to see a real bullfight, but luckily there wasn’t one scheduled for that day. Mark saw one later on TV and reported that it definitely wasn’t for 5 and 7 year olds to watch – too bloody!
From the bullring, we headed over to El Tajo gorge. The Puente Nuevo is one of the bridges that crosses the gorge. We enjoyed walking over that bridge and into the old part of the city with its cobblestone streets and old shops. We walked all the way to the end of the old city and saw the old Islamic gates. Ronda was a charming town to visit.
We were pretty beat after walking all over Ronda and Mark wanted to check his email, so we found an internet café for him and Jonna and the kids headed to the Plaza de Espana to find a bench to relax on to enjoy the sunshine. Darby and Grayson enjoyed a gelato!
