We ventured from Merced about 8 am this morning and headed due west towards Carmel.
We arrived in Carmel about 10:30 and spent time exploring the darling seaside town and searching for the bench where Jonna and Mark were photographed in 1992 and then again on our honeymoon in 1994. Darby had the great idea to take another picture on the same bench and frame it with the other two which currently hang in our den at home. Mark pointed out several benches thinking they were the correct ones, but Jonna finally found the one where the photographs were taken so many years ago. Passers by surely thought we were crazy taking pictures on various benches to see if the backgrounds matched, but we finally succeeded in taking a 2012 update phot and this time, the kids were included!
We spent a bit of time exploring the Carmel beach and enjoyed the cold sand between our toes. It is unseasonably cold in California today and we loved the cool temps. Time was ticking though and we wanted to get to San Francisco by evening, so we headed from the beach to 17 Mile Drive and enjoyed the 21 stops along that beautiful route before arriving at the famous Pebble Beach Golf Course. Mark and Grayson were in their glory there! The kids enjoyed 17 Mile Drive and Mark and Jonna were glad to experience it again - 18 years after our honeymoon.
