This morning after we checked out, we headed south on the N340 to the small village of Casares.  It is a tiny, all white village nestled in the mountains.  We weren’t sure where to park so that we could explore the town so we drove into the village and the roads grew more and more narrow.  Before we knew it, the walls had closed in on us to about 6 inches on either side and there was no way to turn around and we were approaching a dead end!  Just about the time we realized what trouble we were in, we started sliding backwards on the cobblestone street.  We completely panicked.   All of a sudden, a Spanish man who spoke no English appeared out of nowhere and assisted Mark in doing about a 28 point K turn to get us turned around.  We finally got turned around, but not before backing into a wall and bustng a taillight!  We drove out of the town and found a parking space about 1.5 miles away and then walked back into town.  Guess there is no parking there!  When we came back into the town on foot, it seemed like all of the villagers were staring at us thinking, “Crazy Americans”.  There were virtually NO tourists in Casares so I guess it is a well-kept secret.  It was a beautiful little village and we enjoyed several hours of walking around and exploring all of the streets and ruins.

From Casares, we headed back via the town of Estepona.  Estepona is a cute, coastal town south of Marbella.  We enjoyed walking along the long wide pedestrian streets and looking in the shops.  We stopped at an outdoor Spanish café and tried the famous paella!  Delicious!  After lunch it was siesta time and not much to do in the town, and Darby and Grayson each found a friend to play with.  Darby played dolls with a little Spanish girl who didn’t speak a lick of English, and Grayson met a little British boy on a skateboard.

After a long day of sightseeing, we headed to our second resort, Heritage at Matchroom.  It was a really nice condo, but the location of the first resort was better positioned right on the water.  Mark and the kids immediately headed out to the very cold (not heated) pool for a swim and we turned in early because we planned to drive to Seville on Sunday!
