There is something rather strange about the plumbing in this country! You cannot flush toilet paper! Each toilet has a small trash can next to it and all paper must be deposited into it. That has been

pretty hard to get use to!  Apparently the plumbing system can't take it.

We had another great breakfast before school today. Some sort of pancake that was quite delicious. I might gain a few pounds here. School today was really good again. After class we had an hour long dance class and Darby and I learned the meringue and some salsa dancing. Grayson was game to try until a woman wanted to dance with him and he ran and hid, saying "I'm outta here!". Nothing could get him back out there. Darby was really good!

After class we headed to the bank to exchange some travelers’ checks. All the banks here are guarded by armed guards with machine guns. Rumor has it that there have been thieves that target the banks and bank customers. We grabbed a piece of cake at a bakery on the walk home.

Once we got home we headed to downtown Heredia with Alba and the kids. We went to a large store called Hipermas, that resembled a Wal-Mart, to pick up a few necessities. Alba’s cousin, a taxi driver, drove by on the way to the bus stop and gave us a lift home. Seems Alba is related to everyone! He gave us a quick tour of Heredia and it is a big and dirty city and very crowded!

For dinner, we had spaghetti and some kind of meatballs. They were very different from ours. I don’t think the kids liked them so well. I have found it is best to steer clear of meat in Costa Rica – for the most part it is not good!

Every day Alba washes our clothes and line-dries them so they smell so fresh. She is really great. We enjoyed talking until about 8 PM, then turned in.
