A visit to the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site

The childhood home of Julia Dent, Grant's wife

Our ranger took us on the tour of the home
where Grant spent a good part of his adult life

This bright green home color was very stylish in the mid to late 1800s
Grant and his wife Julia lived here after marriage with her parents
Grant and Col. Dent did not get along well as their politics differed tremendously

Grayson explores on of the rooms in Grant's house

Darby smiles at the fact that she will never have to cook on a stove like this!

The kids getting busy on their Junior Ranger programs

Our ranger was so knowledgeable
Behind us is the icehouse where huge chunks of ice from the frozen Mississippi River
would be hauled and stored to keep meat cold from winter into July each year

A view of the house from the back
Slaves of the Dent family would live on this side of the house

The ranger asks the kids to raise their right hand and repeat after her...

"We promise to protect all National Parks Sites and be good Junior Rangers..."

St. Louis was warm but breezy and in full bloom

The pink fountain was a novelty

We took a pit stop here to rest our weary legs

A visit to the Old Courthouse

The reflection of the courthouse into the modern glass building
contrasted the co-existence of new and old in St. Louis

Inside the courthouse gazing up at the dome

This is the courtroom where the final Dred Scot verdict was read
It was not in Dred Scott's favor

Flags proudly adorn the balconies of the courthouse

The lobby of the St. Louis Science Center was very cool!

Darby and Grayson attempt to generate enough energy to propel the wheel forward!
(giant gerbils!)

This dinosaur looked a little cranky

Mark assisted Darby and Grayson in the building of the large foam Arch

Success!
