LOVED the park. We watched a short video about the dunes before heading out to explore. Darby and Grayson had the Junior Ranger booklets on hand as we first hiked the loop which encompassed the Bailly Homestead and Chellberg Farm. The Bailly homestead was the home of a fur trapper in Indiana and the Chellberg farm represented life for a Swedish family. It was a beautiful hike through the woods and a beautiful day. From there we traveled east about 15 minutes by car to Mt. Baldy, the largest sand dune in the park. We hiked to the summit of the dune and the view was magnificent. It was perfectly clear and we could see Chicago on the distant shore. After a few hours at the park we decided it was time to continue our journey and head to Indianapolis so off we went. It was about a 3.5 hour drive through horrific rain storms but we finally settled into our hotel and prepared for our next day of sightseeing.
