Pedestrian Street in Seville

The Seville Cathedral

The Fountain at Plaza del Triunfo

Looking up at the Cathedral

The Cathedral didn't open until 2 pm so we headed over to tour the Alcazar first.
One of the ceilings in the Alcazar.
The Alcazar is a royal palace, originally a Moorish fort

This is the first known painting about the Americas

More neat ceiling architecture
the Alcazar has a mixture of Moorish and Christian architecture influences

Inside the courtyard of the Alcazar
... the upper levels of the Alcazar are still used by the royal family today as the official Seville residence

Grayson standing by a model of Christopher Columbus' Santa Maria

Inside the Alcazar

It was the most beautiful day in Seville

The tapestries inside the Alcazar are amazing

After touring the inside with a headset,
we headed out into the gardens behind the Alcazar

The kids loved all the orange trees

The gardens and fountains were so elaborate

Checking out the ducks...

Mark and the kids enjoying the gardens

Family photo in the Alcazar gardens

Darby loved the headless statue

Grayson too...

The Alcazar garden maze was truly amazing

We had fun getting lost in the maze

Grayson and Darby weren't tall enough to see over the hedges

It wasn't hard to keep an eye on Mark

Fun afternoon

The gardens were perfect on such a perfect day

After lunch, we toured the Cathedral

The ceiling work was phenomenal

Mom and the kids next to the tomb of Christopher Columbus

The area behind the pulpit was so ornate

The Giralda from the ground - we hikes up 35 ramps to get to the top
There were ramps instead of stairs so the guards could ride their horses to the top

A view of outside from the hike up to the Giralda

Getting a little higher

The top of the Cathedral is beautiful

Looking down at the Plaza del Triunfo

The view of the bullring

The Cathedral courtyard

...loved seeing the river in the distance

Another shot of the inside of the Cathedral

Four sepulchre bearers holding up the tomb each represent one of the 4 kingdoms of Spain at the time of Columbus' journey: Castille, Navarra, Aragon, Leon

After touring the Cathedral, we decided to take a boat trip down the Rio
GuadalquivirRiver to see all the new bridges built in 1992 for the 500 Anniversary of Columbus' voyage

Heading down the river

Grayson's cheeks are stuffed with M&Ms

Buildings along the river

A gorgeous afternoon for a boat ride

A bridge across the Rio
Guadalquivir River

A replica of the Santa Maria

Beautification taking place along the river

A newly constructed bridge

The contrast between old and new was stark
