July 2, 2011 Virginia/New Jersey

July 3, 2011 New York City

We headed out of Atlanta with everyone else in the city on Friday afternoon - 4th of July weekend!  The traffic was a challenge, but we made it up to South Hill, Virginia where we spent the night.  Saturday morning, we headed east to Emporia and met up with Jerry McCreary, a work colleague of Mark's, and his wife, Kathy, at Cracker Barrel for breakfast.  From Emporia, we jumped on 95 north up to New Jersey where we spent the night in the Princeton area and toured the Princeton campus.  Such a beautiful part of New Jersey.

Sunday morning was gloomy and rainy, but we were undeterred and headed up the NJ Turnpike and through the Holland Tunnel into NYC.  We drove through the city and saw the World Trade Center building currently under construction, NYU, Dylan's Candy Bar, and Columbia University.  Because Darby's mobility is limited with her ankle, we spent more time in the car than we would have liked, but it was rainy anyway, so it worked out OK. Before leaving the city we decided to grab lunch at Patsy's, an Italian restaurant that has been a NY institution serving up coal oven pizza since 1933.  After some delicious pizza, we were off again heading north toward Connecticut.
