Darby dipped her toes into Resurrection Bay in Seward

Darby and Grayson in front of the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward

Our Sea Otter friend, Skittle, was rescued in March this year -- he was
found in Seldovia half frozen and near death!

Riding through Chugach National Forest

These old cars remain from the Good Friday earthquake in 1964.
It rated 9.2 on the Richter scale, the strongest in N. America history.

The Bald Eagle's continues to add to his nest each year until the nest weighs over 1,000 pounds! Eventually the nest typically causes the tree to collapse.

Out of the forest and into meadowland

The dead looking trees in the background also died during the earthquake when the ground dipped 10 feet exposing the tree roots to salt water.
They remain today as part of the many wild birds' habitats.

An American Bald Eagle perched on a stump!

The eagle hanging out in front of a building that was built during WWII as a communications center -- it was the only building this side of Resurrection River to withstand the 1964 earthquake.

Although statuesque, this is a real eagle perched perfectly still
and didn't mind us coming close on our horses.

Bree leading Darby, Grayson, and Mark on Frisco, Buddy, and Gus

The scenery was amazing...

Forging the streams was so much fun

This amazing Raven posed for a picture

Our family on horseback in Alaska! Great memories!

Bree, our guide, "packing heat" in case of bears - we didn't see any on
our ride (but we saw lots of bear tracks!)

The weather cleared up and was gorgeous

Jonna on Orca

It doesn't get much better than this!

Darby and Grayson stayed at the front of the pack

Jonna and Mark's horses did their own thing (mainly eat grass!)
at the back of the pack and then would trot to catch up!

This is a young eagle whose head had not yet turned white

Jonna and Orca

The wildflowers were plentiful...

Orca was always stopping to eat and drink, causing Jonna to be last in line!

Orca is a beautiful horse

Here comes Jonna - behind again! Right after this photo, Orca trotted to catch up!

Darby and Frisco back at the stable

Mark and Gus bonded

Orca is STILL eating!

The RV in Portage Valley, our final campsite of the trip.

Our campsite sat right next to these beautiful flowers
and a stream with a mountain view!

Mark and the kids grilling out - tonight it's burgers again!

Mark taught the kids how to play poker ...
what an amazing home-school experience! ;)
